Did you know?
You may be able to get a breast pump and necessary equipment completely FREE through your insurance company or Medicaid.
What the Law Says
From the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:
“All plans in the Health Insurance Marketplace® must provide pregnancy care before and after childbirth.”
This includes coverage for nursing parents to buy or rent breast pumps, depending on your plan’s rules and provider recommendations.
In many cases, this means your plan will pay for a breast pump and related supplies so you can feed your baby with confidence—at home, at work, or on the go.
How Coverage Usually Works
Every plan is a little different, but most will:
- Cover the cost to buy or rent a breast pump
- Require a prescription or provider recommendation
- Ask you to use an in‑network supplier
- Have timing rules (during pregnancy or postpartum)
